I had a gastric bypass one year ago and have been extremely happy with my results. It took a long time to finally make the decision that dieting was not working and surgery was the way to go. Once I made the decision if was time to figure out how I was going to pay for it.
I knew the cost was out of the question in the US and started looking overseas. I had no problem with the idea of going out of the country for my surgery as I know that all bariatric surgeons have the same education but not all are at the top of their class. I started writing doctors in Thailand, Mexico, Brazil, India, etc. I went on forums, message boards, etc. I spent a over a year researching and now feel I am an expert in weight loss surgery, lol. I chose Costa Rica and Dr. Quesada. I chose Costa Rica because of the medical care and level of expertise but more importantly I wanted a country that was not poor and full of diseases. I worried about recovery. Costa Rica is a middle class country and it is even safe to drink tap water. I knew this meant no strange diseases. I chose Dr. Quesada because he was the most educated and all my emails were answered quickly and fully. My surgery experience was wonderful and I am so happy with my weight loss. I have lost 120 lbs. and am now ready for some cosmetic surgery to rid myself of my hanging skin.......sags everywhere! I am going to go to Rosenstock Center because they work with Dr. Quesada and I figure that since Dr. Quesada is so professional and so easy to talk to that The Rosenstock doctors must be the of the same quality. I decided to write on this board to let others know of one persons success. I will be going to CR for my cosmetic surgery in two weeks and can't wait. I will write about it on my return. |

I also went to Costa Rica and had my surgery with Dr. Quesada. I chose to have a MGB. I did a lot of reading and talked to my family doctor about this procedure.
He said that this was an excellent surgery and felt I would be very successful. I had my surgery last June and am so happy with the results. I am at my goal weight!!! YEA, for me. I can't get over how fast I lost the weight. I think that the most important part was that I really got into going to the gym. That was something I had never thought I could do. Now I am so use to going that when I don't go for a couple of days my body missing it and I just feel out of it. I actually love the gym. But I still have hanging skin, especially my stomach and arms. I did gain muscle in my arms but the underside shakes. I am making plans to go back to CR for cosmetic surgery. I am also going to go to the Rosenstock Clinic as they work closely with Dr. Quesada and I feel safe that way. I spent my whole life going from one diet to another and a yo-yo with my weight but now never again. I love my new life and it is so easy to stick to. I really think that for some people food is an addiction and this is the best way to kick the dependence. Dr. Quesada was wonderful and so easy to talk to. I am so glad I found the right surgeon. I send him my progress reports and he always has great words of encouragement. For me the best WL surgery is the MGB. Dianne |
